Celebrate the August bank holiday for less
Though Covid limited the amount we were able to explore the last few years; in 2019, a study by Kantar showed that British residents made over 1.6 billion day trips across the country – spending around £67 billion in the process!
Though the Blue Light community is never officially ‘off’, with the August bank holiday looming, we thought many of our members might be getting ready for a bit of fun over those three days.
While 30% of those members we surveyed are expecting to be working, 42% of you are planning on visiting family and friends, while another 20% are planning a cheeky day out.
Enjoying the great outdoors
We love seeing our members get out and about in their spare time and enjoy all that the UK has to offer.
Aimi, who works in immigration enforcement in Staffordshire, told us, “My husband works bank hols but I will be off work with my children so will probably take them for a walk and picnic somewhere”, while Saimah who works for the NHS in London, said “...taking the kids to Cardiff with the family for the weekend to hopefully see some green nature and waterfalls and visit castles.”
Skip some of the stress of planning though and make sure you’re covered with inspiration and savings on everything from things to do to parking – only with Blue Light Card!
A weekend away
Fancy something that little bit longer? Having an extra day to play with is inspiring many of you to make the most of things and treat yourselves to a short break.
Planning a holiday though (especially at short notice) can really add up which is why we’re delighted that Michelle, who works in social care in Staffordshire, has been looking to use her card to book a long weekend for her and her husband.
“I’ve just got to check that my cat sitters are free!”

Seeing what the weather holds
Given the highs and lows of the last few weeks in terms of weather, is it any real surprise so many of you are waiting with bated breath before deciding on any concrete plans?
We certainly know many of our team are conscious of things potentially heating up (and the crowds that could build up if it does) and it seems we’re not alone!
Jennifer, who works for the NHS in Somerset, said “We’ve not planned anything yet. We’ll probably see how the weather is nearer the time, as if it’s sunny I expect we will have a family BBQ.”
Ali, who also works for the NHS near Bath, on the other hand, is taking it easy and keeping an open mind. “We’ve got nothing planned yet. Usually wait to see what the weather is going to be like. Most likely we’ll just enjoy the chance to chill out and relax.”
