What are your plans for the festive season?
While the majority of the UK will spend the festive period tucking into turkey and spending time with their family and friends, we know that many of our members will be required either on-shift or on-call.
With 40% of those we surveyed reporting that they are scheduled to ‘work’ over Christmas and New Year, we can’t thank you enough for your commitment to keeping our society safe, healthy and supported. Whether you’re at home, at work or planning to visit family, we thought it important to share how our members are planning to celebrate this Christmas.
Loving time with loved ones
‘Tis the season when families get together and share stories, gifts and indulgent treats. Our members may be fitting family-time around their work requirements but that just makes the quality time they do arrange even more precious.
Angela S, works for the NHS in Kent and is on-call over Christmas but is still making time for “a traditional family roast” before seeing her “brother and children on Boxing Day and a family gathering of cousins during Twixtmas.”
Devonshire NHS worker, Ryan P. however, has recently bought a house with his partner and has said, “we'll spend the day at home just us two plus a Christmas lunch, then go and see both of our parents in the late afternoon/evening before ending the night watching Christmas films together.”
Some of our members are balancing their time in with getting out and about!
Social care employee, Louise W. has said, “We’ll be up early with kids opening their stocking on our bed, opening presents, eat lunch, play or go for a walk, have nibbles and play games”, whereas Grant F. - who works for Angus Police - says he will be “spending time with the family and getting outdoors as much as possible! There’s nothing better than a family walk and catching a winter sunset then coming home for a hot chocolate to warm up.”
Showing you a little love
“The Blue Light community has once again worked so hard this year, tirelessly caring for those in need and protecting us all as we go about our everyday lives’, said Blue Light Card CEO, Tom Dalby.
“Many of the Blue Light community work long shifts throughout the festive season, which can make Christmas shopping difficult. We hope our Black Friday discounts offer a helping hand by giving you time to plan and buy a few gifts early.”
Don’t forget!
New, exclusive Black Friday offers will be announced right up until the day itself so keep checking back to make sure you’re making the most of your money by shopping with Blue Light Card!
